GUI, Web and Database systems
As part of the preparation for the aborted launch of our HAWK products, I was keen to utilise modern information systems to make our operations more efficient and to provide our customers with a good experience when dealing with our company.
I looked for software packages that could offer the things that I wanted to have, and found nothing that came close.
So in common with lots of business problems that I dealt with, I decided to research how to provide the systems myself.
I specified Databases, and we developed in house programs and web pages that used MySQL and PHP to provide various systems :-
- Product Marketing pages where potential customers could choose features that were important to them, and display products sorted according to their preferences.
- Instantaneous PDF data sheet creation for user defined selections of products, that showed the combined system that resulted
- Wish list and Automatic Quotation systems, that could then be used to convert quotations into purchase orders
- Ordering system that could call up previous orders as a starting point, edit them and place new orders
- Production test tracking system that updated product progress live on the web for each customer order
- RMA request, issuing and progress tracking system
I was able to forsee any operational needs, issues that could occur if misused, and specify the databases and programs to cope with that.
